The Rector of the University visits Koya Technical Institute.

Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, accompanied by Dr. Botan Majid Asanger, Assistant Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, visited Koya Technical Institute. They were welcomed by Dr. Hawzhin Sliwa Isa, Director of Koya Technical Institute, along with Mr. Rostam Izzat Tahir, founder and first director of the institute, the assistant director, and a number of council members, lecturers, and staff of the institute.

During a meeting, discussions were held about the development of Koya Technical Institute in scientific fields and the establishment of its infrastructure.

Afterwards, the Rector of the University and attendees inaugurated a memorial room dedicated to Mr. Rostam Izzat Tahir, the founder and first director of Koya Technical Institute. This was done in recognition of his services to the institute, and many of his belongings were displayed there.

Later, they visited the staff records department, which has been modernized through the budget of Erbil Polytechnic University and the engineering team of the institute.

Hawler Polytechnic University and the Kurdistan Institution for Innovation discussed the steps to start a joint innovation project.

Today, on 29/4/2026, Prof. Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, Rector of Hawler Polytechnic University, visited the Kurdistan Institution for Innovation (K.I.I). He was welcomed by the head of the institution, the well-known Kurdish doctor and inventor of the artificial heart, Dr. Azad Najjar.

In the meeting, Prof. Dr. Azad Hassan Qadir, Asst, Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Botan Majid Asangar, Asst,Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, Dr. Sirwan Latif Haji, Dean of Soran Technical College, Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud, Head of the IT Department at Soran Technical College, and a number of students attended. The Rector, on behalf of himself and the university council, congratulated Dr. Azad Najjar on receiving an honorary PhD from MDU University in Sweden.

Prof. Dr. Edris Harki addressed Dr. Azad Nak jar and said, “This scientific achievement, because of your work and innovation in the field of the artificial heart, was a source of pride for all of us, as a Kurdish scientist was honored by the King of Sweden.”

Both sides agreed to start a joint innovation project, tested an innovation course in universities (pilot), supported students’ ideas for development, and worked on solving issues related to registration and protection of inventors’ rights.

The Eleventh International Engineering Conference between Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University started its activities.

On April 29, 2026, with the presence of Prof. Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Dr. Edris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees of Tishk International University, and Dr. Sultan Awrabi, Rector of Tishk International University, along with the assistants of the university rectors, members of the university council, and guests, the opening ceremony of the Eleventh Annual International Engineering Conference between Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University was held.

After listening to the Iraqi national anthem and the Kurdistan national anthem, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, gave a speech. At the beginning of his speech, he welcomed the guests and expressed his happiness for their presence at the opening ceremony of the Eleventh Annual International Engineering Conference, which was organized by Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University.

The university rector pointed out that Erbil Polytechnic University, as a scientific and leading institution, worked seriously to achieve the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations in order to protect the environment and improve community well-being. In this context, the university organized three international conferences this year, and all its study programs, new departments, and master’s and doctoral theses were directed toward serving these goals and the labor market. He hoped that this conference could provide solutions to the challenges of sustainable development and serve the Kurdistan Region and the world.

At the same time, it was a pleasure that the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government took important practical steps to protect the environment, including building eight new dams by 2024, which had an important role in protecting groundwater. Also, through the university’s scientific research, it was proven that implementing the “Runaki Project” in Erbil effectively saved the city from a dangerous stage of air pollution. In the end, he wished for a successful and beneficial conference for all participants.

A high-level academic delegation from Erbil Polytechnic University participated in an international conference in Thailand.

Within the framework of the continuous efforts of Erbil Polytechnic University to advance the scientific and academic level, Dr. Zkri Ali Aziz, Head of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department at Erbil Technical Health and Medical College, actively participated in the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics Global Educators Meeting (ISPO Global Educators Meeting 2026).

 

This international event was held from March 23 to 25, 2026, in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

 

During the meeting, Dr. Zikri presented an important scientific research entitled “Shaping the Future of P&O Education: A Global Curriculum Blueprint” and highlighted the development and future of education in this field at the global level. This type of participation reflected the university’s vision and goals, which consistently emphasized the importance of international scientific activities and continuously supported faculty members and researchers in exchanging experiences and enhancing the university’s global reputation.

 

On the sidelines of this visit, the Head of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department conducted a field and scientific visit to the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. The main objective of this visit was to discuss establishing joint scientific coordination, as well as to prepare for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions, which represented an important step toward exchanging expertise and advancing practical education processes.
