Today, 19/01/2026, under the supervision of the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Taher Harki, and hosted by the Honorable Consul General of India, Mr. Brijesh Kumar, with the attendance of members of the University Council, the Head of Erbil Medical Technical Institute, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tiran Jamil Piro, and the Assistant Head, Dr. Tareq Waisi Sadiq, participated in a workshop entitled ‘Application Process for the ITEC Program’ at the Conference Hall of the Presidency of Erbil Polytechnic University.”
A delegation from Erbil Polytechnic University, consisting of Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Omar Yassen, Director of International Relations; Dr. Chiman Haydar Salh, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Engineering Department, Technical College of Computer and Informatics Engineering, Mr. Zanear Jabbar Ssali, PhD candidate and Lecturer at the Technical Administrative College, and Mr. Rebwar Abdulmajid Abdullah, Master’s student, Technical Administrative Institute participated in the Human Rights Week held at Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS), Germany.
Throughout the week, the focus was on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Human Rights and Migration. The EPU staff highlighted the role of AI in education. For that reason, EPU opened AI and Robotic Engineering department to offer curriculum that in par with job market.
This participation is part of the long-term partnership between Erbil Polytechnic University and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). Both universities are in negotiation to connect further on issues of Human rights, AI and migration. The universities have also signed mobility agreements to exchange students in the field of humanities and social science.
A delegation from our university, consisting of Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asangar, Assistant Rector for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies; Prof. Dr. Abdullah Omer Yasin, Director of International Relations (IRO) and Director of the Career Development Center (CDC); Prof. Dr. Hataw Karim Khidr; and Ms. Huda Sabah Najm Al-Din, a lecturer at Erbil Technical Administrative Institute and CDC representative at the institute; and Piro Botan Mohsen, staff member of the Directorate of International Relations, visited the International University of Rome in Italy within the framework of the RISE project. They participated in a series of training courses and academic meetings.
The aim of participating in this training was to review the roadmap for the internationalization of our university and to strengthen cooperation between the IRO and CDC directorates. During the training, emphasis was placed on student and staff exchange, ways to obtain financial support from the European Union, and strengthening relations between our university and Italian universities.
The RISE project aimed to strengthen cooperation between the academic sector and the professional sector.
The RISE project was a two-year joint academic project funded by the European Union. It started in January 2025 and was scheduled to end in January 2027. In total, nine universities participated in the project: seven universities from the Kurdistan Region, one university from Italy, and one university from Spain (the host university). The project was supervised by the Union of Mediterranean Universities.
The active participation of our university in such international projects was an important step toward internationalizing the education system and improving graduates’ skills to compete in the labor market.
Today was Sunday, dated 14/12/2025. Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Taher Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, received a high-level delegation from the Rwanga Organization, headed by Mr. Issa Basharati, Head of the Rwanga Secretariat for Education, along with a staff member from the organization, who paid a visit to the university presidency.
Alongside the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Azad Hassan, Vice Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asnagar, Vice rector for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, as well as Mr. Bahzad Hilmi Akreyi, Director of the rector’s Office, were present at the reception.
The main purpose of the meeting was to establish strong and effective coordination between the university and the Rwanga Organization in order to implement programs aimed at developing and enhancing the capacities of university students in various fields.
The Rector of the University expressed the university’s support for the efforts of the Rwanga Organization and showed readiness for joint cooperation in the interest of students and the advancement of the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region.
Erbil Polytechnic University always placed great importance on such joint activities and considered them part of the university’s vision to build a strong bridge of communication between the academic environment and the private sector and non-governmental organizations, as such programs played a key role in preparing, developing, and enhancing the capacities of university students in various fields.
